Heritage conservation

Description

The major fire in the cathedral took a heavy toll on the natural stone masonry. Soot and released pollutants settled on and in the walls, causing damage to them. Cleaning was carried out using a solvent-free, film-binding peel-off paste, which traps the impurities. The layer that forms is then stripped off to remove the particles from the masonry.

Wood protection, fire protection & wood refurbishment

Description

Sustainability played a major role in the choice of materials: The wood for the staircase came from sustainable forestry and the wood waste generated during the construction of the staircase was also reused. The products used were also chosen for their sustainable credentials. At the same time, they also need to withstand the high loads that are exerted on the stairs and floors by numerous visitors over long periods of time.

Building waterproofing and refurbishment

Description

The new construction of the underwater world and the large aviary in Luisenpark had to be finished with flat roof structures that would provide reliable waterproofing over the long term. Due to the exposed location and the construction-related moisture load, the flat roofs are the part of the building that is subject to the most stress. A flat roof is exposed not only to rainwater, but also to extreme temperature differences, complex structural-physical interactions and mechanical loads, such as stresses caused by expansion, shrinkage and deflection of the structure. The individuality of the roof construction presented planners and contractors with particular challenges when waterproofing the flat roof construction. But a quick and easy solution was found in the form of MB PUReactive+.

Floor coatings

Description

Choosing the right floor coating system was an important aspect when planning the hangar. The authorities stipulated that the system used must be approved according to the German Federal Water Act. In addition, the maintenance areas in the hall needed to meet slip resistance class R11, while the planned washing area required a slip resistance rating of R11/V4. And that’s not all: In addition to the rolling loads of the aeroplanes, the flooring – spanning a surface are of more than 10,000 m² – would also need to withstand other intensive mechanical and chemical stresses. And if that wasn’t already challenging enough, the floor coating had to be applied within just four weeks.

Basement renovation, Building waterproofing and refurbishment

Description

Due to years of neglect, the palace's basement rooms were in a state of disrepair. Moisture damage to the walls, accumulated rainwater, lack of insulation, and inadequate air conditioning had severely damaged the barrel and ribbed vaults made of red sandstone. The basement had to be completely restored. Extensive waterproofing and interior insulation measures had to be carried out in order to restore the premises for gastronomic use – all in accordance with monument protection guidelines.

Floor coatings, Flooring systems for the food industry

Description

The Hagn family commissioned the conversion of a former storage depot for the delivery, production and distribution of red and white wine. The project called for the installation of an industrial floor that could meet the hygiene requirements of the food production sector and the loads exerted by the transport vehicles. The decision was taken to use a chemically and mechanically resilient, pigmented epoxy coating that fulfils all the physical and hygienic criteria.

Heritage conservation, Facade protection and refurbishment

Description

Numerous sandstone buildings in the park have been damaged or destroyed over the centuries due to peeling, iron crusts and salt exposure. To counteract the exponential progression of weathering, classic and elasticising stone strengtheners were used on the walls, decorative elements and sculptures. With the help of a special binding agent, various additives were used to produce and apply injection compounds, battering mortar and glazes on site.

Building waterproofing and refurbishment, Floor coatings

Description

Two solutions were used to waterproof the house. The first step was to seal the ground floor base. This was done from above. The base of the house was then waterproofed from the outside. This protects the substrate of the building from moisture on both sides.

Description

The vacant buildings required refurbishment in many areas, starting with moisture and salt damage in the ground floor and basement rooms. Due to the proximity to the banks of the Main River, special attention had to be paid during the renovation of the plinth to ensure that the walls were waterproof and thus protected from moisture in the soil and seepage water. The facades of the old warehouses also had to be renovated due to large cracks. New grouting, stone replacement and stone substitution measures were then carried out. Waterproofing measures were also necessary, both inside and outside the buildings, to make them habitable. Due to the holistic refurbishment of the project, several products and system solutions were used to transform the old industrial site into a modern living space.
