Remmers – The number 1 in Europe

The aim of heritage conservation is to preserve cultural monuments in the long term. Cultural heritage is extremely important for societies in order to identify with their history on the basis of tangible and sensually perceptible historical evidence and thereby form a social identity. This applies to small regions as well as to Europe as a whole. Monument conservation is a component of quality of life.

Bernhard Remmers Prize

Every two years, the Bernhard Remmers Academy awards the Bernhard Remmers Prize for outstanding craftsmanship in the preservation of historic buildings. The idea behind this is to make the high level of commitment to the preservation of historic buildings visible for the future.

Special emphasis is placed on recognising the craftsmanship involved in the implementation of the work. At ‘denkmal’, the European trade fair for restoration, monument preservation and urban renewal in Leipzig, craftsmen, planners, architects, monument conservators and builders are honoured for outstanding achievements in monument preservation. Masterful craftsmanship is particularly recognised.

These range from the supreme discipline of monument conservation to engineering, structural, administrative, commercial and park buildings through to specialised areas such as wastewater and sewerage construction.
