Speicher 60, Emden (GER)

Speicher 60, Emden (GER)

As part of revitalisation work at the port of Emden, the city's former customs warehouse was converted into an urban lifestyle property. “Speicher 60” combines luxurious living space with state-of-the-art commercial space. The old brickwork was completely renovated, former gable structures were reconstructed, and two storeys with a steel and glass look were added to the building.

Short description
Decades of vacancy and sporadic use gave nature time to reclaim the site. Before the building was listed in 1979, the gable was demolished in the 1970s. But even after being granted industrial monument status, the building lay vacant and continued to deteriorate. The building ruin therefore had to be completely gutted first. Extensive energy-efficient refurbishment was necessary to make the building usable.
