In order to promote and integrate sustainability within the company, it is necessary to anchor it at various levels throughout the organisation. We have therefore distributed responsibility for the development, specification, and implementation of the sustainability strategy across various departments and committees within the company. A distinction must be made here between centralised and decentralised structures as well as between strategic and operational units. In addition, we are establishing channels for communicating sustainability issues both internally as well as externally.
S@R Steering Committee
The S@R steering committee (Sustainability@Remmers) consists of the business unit managers, the heads of the Research & Development, Innovation Core Team, and Regulatory Affairs & Sustainability divisions, and is under the leadership of the sustainability manager. The steering committee is responsible for managing and controlling the operational sustainability management. Further responsibilities include adapting the sustainability strategy, controlling the overarching goals using selected sustainability indicators, monitoring the budget, and mandating sustainability management in the fields of action.
Team Sustainability
As part of the Regulatory Affairs & Sustainability division, the Sustainability Team deals with the diverse tasks that sustainability entails for the company. These include the advancement and implementation of the sustainability strategy, the fulfilment of legal and voluntary (reporting) obligations (e.g., CSRD, EMAS, Supply Chain Act), the calculation of the corporate carbon footprint, the topic of life cycle assessment (LCA), the creation of sustainability data sheets, as well as internal and external sustainability communication.
Operational sustainability management in the fields of action
Various affected divisions are responsible for implementing the strategy in the three fields of action. The employees responsible and involved in these topics therefore come together on a project-specific basis as needed. At this level, measures are derived from the overarching strategic goals, key figures for controlling the respective goals and measures are defined and collected, and the implementation of measures is monitored.
S@R Advisory Committee
In order to further anchor the topic of sustainability within the company and enable all employees to participate, the advisory committee provides an open channel for exchange. This channel is also used to communicate sustainability information from the steering committee to the company and, in turn, to convey ideas and suggestions from the company to the steering committee.
