Bolongaro Palace, Frankfurt (GER)

The Bolongaro Palace was built at the end of the 18th century as the residence of the Bolongaro brothers and underwent various changes of use after their death. Until 1928, the palace remained an administrative building, serving, among other things, as a registry office. In 2016, the city of Frankfurt decided to revitalise the palace and invested over 50 million euros in its refurbishment. In addition to educational and cultural offerings, a restaurant was created in the central building, while a commercial kitchen and storage rooms are located in the historic vaulted cellar.

Short description
Due to years of neglect, the palace's basement rooms were in a state of disrepair. Moisture damage to the walls, accumulated rainwater, lack of insulation, and inadequate air conditioning had severely damaged the barrel and ribbed vaults made of red sandstone. The basement had to be completely restored. Extensive waterproofing and interior insulation measures had to be carried out in order to restore the premises for gastronomic use – all in accordance with monument protection guidelines.
